Part 3 How to stand out – which apps encourage you to open an account the most
Recently, we compared mobile banking apps. We examined how to download the app to your smartphone and how to set up a mobile account using it. Now it's time to test how such an app can be useful.
This time, we'll focus on the apps themselves and what they offer without logging in. We'll examine whether banking apps can be useful for potential customers who aren't yet sure which bank they want to open an account with. We decided to see what benefits an app can bring to the decision-making stage when choosing a particular bank and product.
Just don't get lost...
Before we discuss individual features, it is worth assessing whether individual applications are clear and easy to navigateEven though the applications of individual banks differ graphically and have a different layout of individual functions, none of them caused us any problems in use and we can confidently classify them as intuitive.
BZ WBK application – a must-have for a potential customer
After comparing the apps, we already have our favorite – the “app” offers the most possibilities Bank Zachodni WBKWith its help, we can, among other things:
- get acquainted with the Bank's offer,
- learn about the application's functionalities,
- use the demo version,
- find contact details,
- find a branch/ATM or point where you can pay using BLIK,
- check exchange rates and set up an account (as we showed in the previous text).
The BZ WBK app is therefore a truly practical tool that potential customers can use when deciding whether to use the bank's offer. In this category, BZ WBK can consider itself leader!
What if not BZWBK?
They are also advantageous in terms of functionality. ING and Pekao SA banksTo serve as a fully functional sales channel for potential customers (which the BZ WBK app undoubtedly is), they only lack the ability to familiarize themselves with the application's functionalities and the function of opening an account, which undoubtedly finalizes the sale (if the customer is interested in the offer, they must be given the opportunity to immediately finalize it before the competition beats us to it!). The Pekao SA app deserves special praise, because It is the only application we analyzed that has a contact form through which we can directly contact the ConsultantThe ideal here would be chat, allowing for real-time contact. The BZ WBK app recently introduced this solution. The downside, however, is that only bank customers with an active app can use this feature, so it's not a channel that will be useful to those just interested in the offer.
Advertising is not enough…
Interestingly, the fewest functions useful to a potential customer are offered by banks that advertise themselves as the most mobile, i.e. mBank and Smart BankWhile these are some of the few banks on the market that allow you to open a mobile account directly in the app, they send you to other channels for information about their offer and contact details. The app does not encourage you to create an account…
Before opening an account – summary
The individual functions are presented in a summary table.

BZ WBK clearly has an advantage here. Competitors should quickly catch up to the leader if they don't want to fall behind among mobile customers.
We will soon be listing the possibilities that banking apps offer to those who have already opened accounts.
